Aromatherapy Therapeutic Massage
For many centuries natural plant oils have been recognised for their healing, cleansing and mood-enhancing properties. An aromatherapy massage can help restore the balance often lost in the stresses of modern-day life. The ancient healing art of aromatherapy utilises pure essences of aromatic plants, flowers and resins to restore the harmony of body and mind.
After a confidential consultation essential oils are selected depending on which will be most beneficial for your individual requirements.
The essential oils we use are of a very high quality and wherever possible (and in the main) are organic.
Therapeutic massage is also available without the use of essential oils if required.
Hot Stone Therapy
This relaxing therapy combines the theraputic values of massage and thermotherapy to bring wellness and healing to the body. Its roots lie with the native american indians, making this a spiritual, as well as physical, healing process. The body is massaged with hot basalt stones and cold marble stones (not too much cold!) to bring about balance and healing within the body. A very relaxing and enjoyable treatment, that once experienced will be wanted time and again. Although this therapy is mainly combined of heat and massage, its spiritual nature also incorporates reflexology, auric strengthening, reiki, sound therapy, aromatherapy, and chakra balancing.
Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient healing art using compression techniques on the reflex points of the feet. It removes congestion, relieves stress and induces deep relaxation, revitalises energy, improves circulation, cleanses the body of toxins and impurities and balances the whole system. It is also extremely beneficial as preventative health care. Each treatment lasts approximately one hour. Most people feel deeply relaxed afterwards. Sometimes you may feel tired or headachy as your body starts to eliminate toxins but this is usually just an initial reaction and can be helped by drinking plenty of water.
Reflexology is suitable for all ages. Sometimes relief of symptoms is experienced after only 2 - 3 treatments whilst more chronic conditions may take longer. You can usually tell whether reflexology is having an effect by about the third or fourth treatment. It is advisable to initially have weekly treatments and as the symptoms start to subside then gradually to space the treatments further apart. Ultimately I personally find a regular treatment every 3 - 4 weeks helps to maintain the energy balance. For pampering and relaxation treat yourself as often as you like.
Reflexology treatment
On your first visit Alison will take a medical history and check your hands and feet for any indications of imbalance. She will then begin working on your feet or hands. Treatments always follow a set procedure with extra attention paid to any areas found to be out of balance. As the goal is to re-balance the whole system Alison would not just work on the problem areas. The first treatment lasts about one and a half hours, subsequent treatments one hour.
Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is an ancient healing art using various massage techniques on the scalp, face, shoulders, upper back and arms. It promotes the mental and physical conditions necessary to foster positive good health and prevent ill health. It relieves pain and stiffness and increases mobility in the neck and shoulder area making it an excellent therapy for people hunched over a computer screen or a steering wheel for long periods. It increases the energy levels, alleviates stress and anxiety and promotes more restful sleep.
Each treatment lasts approximately 45 minutes and the best results are obtained if the first two treatments are given fairly close together - within a few days - with the third treatment following a week later. Most people feel extremely relaxed and calm after a treatment but can initially experience reactions such as tiredness, feeling hot and flushed or cold and shivery. This is normally a reaction to the first treatment and is regarded as a positive indication that the body is re-balancing and cleansing itself.
Indian Head Massage treatment
On your first visit a medical history will be taken. Although the treatment can be given in the sitting position fully clothed Alison considers the massage to be much more effective when using massage oils and given with the client lying down. It is also more relaxing for the client. The oils are used on the neck, shoulders, upper back and arms. The massage then proceeds to the head and finally the face and ears. The treatment concludes with the Chakras (energy centres) being balanced. The treatment lasts about 45 minutes.
Reiki
Reiki pronounced “Ray - Key”, is a non-invasive technique which activates healing energy. It removes blockages in the energy system thus enabling the free flow of healing energy which directs itself to wherever in the body it is needed. Reiki blends well with other healing therapies as it assists the healing process. With the client’s agreement I therefore include some Reiki during other treatments if I feel it is appropriate - for instance where there is a localised problem such as a painful joint etc.
A Reiki treatment helps you to relax completely. A treatment usually lasts about 45 minutes after which the client normally feels refreshed, energised, stress and pain free ............and very happy!
Reiki treatment
At the first treatment a medical history will be taken. Reiki is given with the client fully clothed and lying down. The Reiki energy is channelled through the practitioner and passed to the client via the Chakras (energy centres). This healing energy is then transported around the body via the natural energy system to wherever in the body it is needed. The practitioner is usually working in the client's energy field, positioning the hands about 2 - 3 inches above the body. Sometimes, when working on the head for example, the hands are touching the area being worked. The treatment lasts about 45 minutes.
Hopi Ear Candling
The Hopi candle is not a candle as such, but a hollow tube made of cotton flax, with a filter inside. To stiffen the flax they are impregnated with extract of honey and herb oils. The candle is placed over the ear orifice and ignited. It is only allowed to burn to within 4 inches of the end of the candle and you will be under the supervision of the therapist at all times. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it to the base of the candle.
The Treatment
Firstly the therapist will check your ears with an otoscope to check for wax and any sign of infection, perforation of the eardrum etc.
Next you will lie on your side on the couch, made comfortable with a blanket over your body for warmth, and the first ear will be treated with a Hopi candle, you will then turn over and the other ear will be treated (each ear takes about 10-15 minutes).
You will then lie on your back for the finale - a soothing head and face massage that concludes the Hopi Ear Candle Experience. This massage enhances the effects of the candles by increasing circulation and blood flow in the head, face and neck. The massage also stimulates flow in the sinus tubes and promotes lymphatic drainage.

Colour & Crystal Therapy
Colour Therapy
This is the implementation of colours and colour light within the body and aura to bring about healing and emotional balance. Colour has a direct affect on the senses and emotions, and the correct colours can facilitate the bodies own will to heal. A relaxing and enjoyable treatment, it can also be combined with reiki and crystal therapy to enhance its effects. This therapy comes with lots of practical aftercare advice on how you can implement colour therapy into your every day life.
Crystal Therapy
Crystals have been used for many centuries by cultures across the world. Known to be protective and restorative their vibration and structure interact at a positive level with that of humans, creating healing, protection and psychic enhancement. They encourage healing and growth on all levels and help prevent the build up of negative energy that causes illness in the first place. Crystals work directly with the bodies energy power centres (chakras) helping to bring back the balance of the physical, mental and emotional aspects of a person. Crystal therapy can be combined with reiki and colour therapy to enhance its effects.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient medical system developed over thousands of years. It is based on the theory that there is a network of pathways which extend both interiorly and exteriorly linking all parts of the body. Also called meridians these pathways contain a substance known as ”Qi” (the basic life force of human existence) and blood. According to TCM a healthy body maintains itself through the smooth movement of Qi and blood. Symptoms of illness, either physical or emotional, are signs that this flow has been disrupted. TCM can be used to address particular symptoms or to maintain health.
TCM incorporates several techniques including acupuncture, moxibustion (a way of adding warmth by use of a smouldering herb, cupping or tuina (Chinese therapeutic massage).
Safety of treatment
Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment. Needles used are disposable sterile needles. Although there are specific acu-points that are avoided during pregnancy, treatment is safe and I have used it to treat morning sickness, pain and tiredness.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the acu-points. Fine needles are inserted at specific points which are situated along the meridian lines or channels. Acupuncture is virtually painless. Sometimes sensations such as tingling, numbness, aching or heaviness may be experienced. Once inserted, needles are left in place for approximately twenty minutes. After the treatment patients may feel relaxed or slightly sleepy. It is not advisable to undertake strenuous activities for a few hours following treatment. Occasionally there may be an initial flare up of symptoms as the Qi clears and rebalances.
